The History And Background Of 9/11 Memorial

The 9/11 Remembrance

I was still very young at the time of 9/11. The world was in mourning for those who died. I was deeply affected by that tragic event. We had many conversations about the design and construction of the 9/11 memorial because of our major. These reasons are why I was so excited to see the memorial, and especially the two enormous water pools.

The former World Trade Center site is home to the 9/11 Memorial. The Memorial Plaza’s first sight is the swamp white oak array. The trees come primarily from different areas. I believe the reason oaks were chosen is because they are symbolic of the United States. The trees will be used in an array similar to the American soldiers guarding the area. These oaks can be distinguished from each other and will grow to different heights and colors depending on the season. The Twin Towers are situated at the base of these giant voids, which contain recessed pools. Each pool covers approximately 43055 square feet, with 19-foot artificial waterfalls. They then merge into a central square abyss. A metal fence forms the pool’s perimeter. The fence is made from black steel and has the names of over 3,000 victims engraved on it. The yellow light behind this fence will glow the names and victims when it is dark. This is a way of remembering the victims, I believe. This Plaza is now integrated into everyday life. This Plaza not only serves a commemorative purpose, but it also plays an important role in everyday life. Visitors travel from all corners of the globe to visit. Some bring flowers in memory of those who have passed. You can also see white-collar workers in nearby skyscrapers enjoying their lunches and breaks here. The couple often comes here with their children to take advantage of the oak tree shade and the sounds of the waterfall. Two blue beams of strong laser light emitting from the pool into the air on each anniversary of 9/11 shoot up into the sky. This is a reminder of those who have died.

This weekend, I returned to the square for further research. People are out enjoying the sun and a calm atmosphere in the square. You will also feel tranquility as you approach the black waterfalls. The huge water sound will drown out the noise from the people around you. The wind will blow water on your face and bring a cool breeze. The 9/11 Memorial allows you to fully immerse yourself in your world while remembering and contemplating the victims. It is a great place to unwind and listen to nature’s sounds if you are stressed or need to slow down.

The History of 9/11 Memorial

Terrorist attacks struck New York City’s Twin Towers of the World Trade Center at 9:59 AM on September 11. Two other aircraft, which were not military, were also hijacked from Boston. They crashed into the skyscrapers and nearly 3,000 people were killed. This number, 911, has been a constant in all people’s lives. The government and other organizations started to consider how they could help those in the aftermath of disasters and how they could remember the victims. LMDC was created out of this purpose.

Peter Walker and Michael Arad created the concept of the 9/11 Memorial and Museum ‘Reflecting Abence’. They were the winners of the LMDC’s design contest which received 5201 entries from 63 nations. Delta Fountains also designed the engineering for the fountain. Additionally, there is a cooperation plan for design as well as construction. The World Trade Center Foundation, Inc., began construction on the “9*11” National Memorial Museum. This organization is affiliated with Lower Manhattan Development Corporation. In March 2006, the project started and was completed by the 9/11 Memorial in May 2011. This was the 10th Anniversary of 9/11. The Museum was then closed after a year.

Peter Walker created the Twin Tower pools, which are 1 acre in size with artificial waterfalls. The pools were placed at the Twin Tower’s base. The waterfalls are able to muffle the city sounds making it a sanctuary for contemplation.

The 9/11 Memorial has four missions. The first mission of the 9/11 Memorial is to remember the victims of these attacks, which resulted in thousands of deaths. Second, pay tribute to the place where these tragedies occurred. Thirdly, honoring those who have sacrificed their lives for others and supported the victims. Thanks for their support and understanding during the worst of times. We hope the spirit of those who gave their lives to save others will remember them and that they will become an everlasting beacon.
