Instance

The Nursing Professional Association has an impact on leadership theory.

From my perspective, a leader should be able to recognize their own strengths and weaknesses and have the ability and the capacity to influence others. Leaders should be open to sharing their experiences with colleagues in order to inspire them. The best leader listens to all members of the team and attempts to resolve every issue before making any final decisions. True leaders use their strengths and incorporate them into their work. It makes everyone feel happy and helps them enjoy their jobs. This ultimately helps you achieve your goal. Leadership is the ability to make a difference in someone’s behavior, values and attitude. A leader with strong management skills is a role model to his employees. Leaders who are able to achieve outstanding results or perform well gain the admiration of their employees and help them change their beliefs, values, and attitudes (Yazdanifard 2015). Because everyone is involved in the decision making process, I believe democratic leadership is the best. This leadership style is inclusive and includes everyone. It also gives satisfaction to team members due to their participation in the decision making process (Rose Ngozi Amanchukwu (2015)). Formal Leadership ‘Formal leader’ is a member who uses his authority to influence others to achieve organizational goals (Anderson (2018)).

Formal leadership: Role

Formal leaders have more power to make decisions.

Any task can be given a direct direction by a formal leader.

This leadership type is close to the top. A nurse in the ICU has power and can give orders to the nurses.

Formal leaders are members of an organization who have empowered them to achieve their organizational goal.

Informal LeadershipAn informal leader is someone who is respected by his peers and has a good reputation. Unofficial leaders have no authority or power over their colleagues, but they can affect other people’s decisions (Krueger 2013).

Role and importance of informal leadership

Informal nursing leaders are nurses who have been certified as specialists and are clinically competent. This type of leader is responsible for influencing others.

While informal rulers don’t have the power of firing or compensating other people, they often display charisma and are open-minded.

Non-formal leaders are often trouble-shooters, volunteers, champions for additional employment, and members of unit or hospital committees and mutual governance boards (Krueger 2013, 2013).

Example. I was a nurse and participated in informal leadership. I was one day on the nightshift. Because there was not enough staff, they placed one student in my care. Because I didn’t have the resources to provide more staff, I knew I had my own challenges. So I decided to work with both students and patients. I will give the medication. The patient started to show signs of serious illness. I went to check on the patient and found that he was not responding properly. I activated code blue to warn the patient. I ask my student to turn on the code blue. I set up all the equipment necessary to assist the patient. Once the team arrives, we explain the patient’s situation to the leader, who then gives us the instructions. In this instance, I was able to save the patient’s life.

Leadership Philosophy Influenced By Nursing Professional Associations Canada Professional associations are evidence-based and help patients get the best possible care. The patient was always at the center of my attention. I must establish a rapport with all levels of the hospital. Even though I don’t hold any leadership authority, I can still use my informal leadership to provide high-quality care for patients. Good leadership skills can make a difference in the outcome and customer experience. Even health care professionals, even if they don’t consider themselves to be leaders, can assume this role as an unofficial leader and improve their work environment (Registered Nursing Association of Ontario, 2013).

I believe leadership is an important part of every person’s life. I have learned from my role models and experience. My leadership skills are a combination of knowledge and mistakes. I learned them by watching my role models. Leaders are those who have the ability to motivate their team and can lead them. I will always influence others in a positive manner. Before making any decision, I will seek out the opinion of my team.
