I can fully express myself through the hypothetical scenarios that Economics presents. I enjoy the ability to ask questions about different aspects of an economy and see how they can impact. My main interest in Economics is at A-level. I like to study markets, government policies and externalities. In order to improve my analytical ability, I’ve entered the Royal Economics Society essay contest. I have gained a better understanding of the financial industry by studying Economics. I became interested in the way the Bank of England sets a fixed interest rates – at 0.75 % currently – and how this affects loans, mortgages and overdrafts. Finance would allow me the opportunity to improve my problem-solving skills and creative approach, as well as my ability to solve quantitative problems.
Accounting gives me the opportunity to develop my quantitative abilities by processing numerical data. I can also use critical thinking in order to interpret information. This would help me in my course of choice as it allows me to build on a solid foundation and helps me understand more complex concepts. Accounting requires strong time management skills. Since college I have been focusing more on completing assignments and tests under pressure. KPMG insight event was my first out-of-college experience in Accounting. There I got valuable feedback on improving my presentations and written assignments. I also had the opportunity to talk to senior members about their experiences within the company. The experience I gained was invaluable as I realized how important it is to be able to adjust to changing circumstances in order for me to succeed.
The Economics class has provided me with a stimulating environment to discuss and share my thoughts. My confidence has grown and I can now express myself more effectively through discussion. Economical knowledge has greatly improved my adaptability. As an example, I can alter diagrams to suit my needs so that I choose the right information depending on which question I am answering. Using government policies as a way to solve problems has been a great benefit of Economics. I have read more about Economics and it has changed my perspective. Books like ‘The Uncover Economist,’ helped me to understand how scarcity can be a major problem for the economy.
The teamwork I developed while working on Psychology projects in teams has improved my ability to work in a team and to take on different roles to help me be more productive and to assist my team. My organisational skills also improved as I had to separate each topic and make notes individually every week. The best possible work is produced for independent home study, allowing for an easier revision. As I use logic, understanding and knowledge to explain questions and scenarios, my psychology skills have improved.
I’m a footballer who is determined to play after college. Every week I play competitive 5-a-side. As the spaces are smaller, we rely heavily on teamwork to get the opposition open. We communicate effectively across the pitch as a group to create space by running or holding up the ball. These qualities will be helpful in the university environment, which is challenging. By working together in groups, I can alleviate pressure. To stay physically and mentally active, and make new friends at university, I’m planning to join a soccer team.
I am confident that I can complete this degree. Since I chose this degree route, I feel that it was predestined for me to do so.
